Anchoring Regulations in French Waters

Anchoring Regulations in French Waters

Anchoring in French waters is subject to prior declaration and authorization from the Lighthouses and Beacons service for all vessels over 300 GT or over 45 meters in length overall (LOA). Our offices are available to advise you, help you verify, and coordinate your navigation and anchoring plans.

We have created a practical and interactive document that includes links to official decrees as well as simplified versions with maps and translated legends.

This is a compilation of maritime charts indicating anchoring restrictions and specifically authorized areas in the South of France (French Riviera and Corsica) for the 2025 season, in accordance with various local decrees.

On the map, you will also find links to each of our offices based on their respective areas of operation. This document is available for our clients. Feel free to contact us if you would like to receive it.

In any case, please contact the Lighthouses and Beacons service before anchoring.

You can also refer to DONIA, accessible via the following website and application: https://donia.fr/en/home/

DONIA is recognized by the French authorities for identifying the presence of protected species and determining areas where anchoring is authorized or prohibited accordingly.
